Coronavirus Help and Information

Please get in touch using the information below if you need help with supplies in the current crisis.

Published: 17 March 2023

Please get in touch using the information below if you need help with supplies in the current crisis. If you are having difficulties registering for an online shopping slot, check the list of suppliers taking orders by phone. We would also like to hear from you if you want to volunteer to help out.

We should all follow official guidance on what to do and what not to do while restrictions remain in place, including from the NHS website and the government website. Please also check the information and help from Teignbridge District Council and Devon County Council.

In our local community, we can try to help each other as much as possible, while making sure we do not raise the risk of transmitting infection. Please keep in touch with neighbours by exchanging phone numbers or other contact information (making sure to keep safe when doing so).
If you want to volunteer to help out, or you are self isolating and need help with supplies of food or medication, or you just want to chat to someone on the phone, there are two voluntary initiatives in Ogwell:

  1. Nextdoor.co.uk: if you are signed up to this website, visit the Ogwell section to access a list of people who have said they are willing to help, and can be contacted via Nextdoor or Facebook. This list is facilitated by Alex Morrison.
  2. Newton Abbot Covid-19 Mutual Aid: this is a Facebook page where people able to help or needing help can contact each other, or fill in a form and be put in touch with each other via a coordinator. This is updated regularly so check back for the latest information. This is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/685230682286081/

If you aren’t on either of these websites, or you prefer to contact someone by phone, you can call the following Mutual Aid coordinators:

  • The Ogwell coordinator is Pauline Wynter, tel: 01626 324921 or 07712 673995, email: paulineawynter@gmail.com. If you can’t get hold of Pauline, contact Paul Martin on 01626 365624 or 07546 111871.
  • The main Newton Abbot coordinators are Jane Haden, tel: 07954 054459 or 01626 332369, email: janehaden1961@hotmail.co.uk; and Shevaun Hunt, tel: 07725 628182, email: shevaun.tait@yahoo.com.
